House Remodel Part Two : Den

Today I thought I would cover part two of our house remodel and update. This post will cover the den updates. As many of you know we did polished concrete a few years back, but decided to go back to carpet.

This is the before...

First we needed to fix any water damage issues. That is another story for another day! We primed and sealed the floor again! Check below each picture for details!

1) The concrete floor
2) Changing the paint to gray
3) Prime and Seal floor
4) Floor after it was primed and sealed.

1) Laying carpet matting
6-8) Laying and seaming the carpet

My grandmother passed away almost 9 months ago and we decided to incorporate a few of her old pieces into our house. We have her antique record player, ship wheel mirror, lanterns, and custom coffee table my grandfather made. They remind me of my grandparents and I am happy we used them. I will have a tour of the house on my youtube channel soon! Don't forget to go check it out by clicking HERE!

Love and Hugs as always!

Den gets a makeover :Painted Concrete floors

I have been ready to get rid of our carpet for quite a while. I also considered the thought of painting the concrete! Rather than over think it I just decided to do it! Last week we woke up Friday morning and decided to rip up the carpet, so we did! It definitely wasn't really planned out! We ended up having to put the furniture in the kitchen, and let me just say that was no fun!!

I definitely like the results and think change is good!! I'm not saying that I will leave it like this forever, but for now I am glad we did it! Here are a few pictures and then our crazy and quite random video of what took place!

Check out the video of how we did everything!!

Hope you have an amazing weekend! We are planning to repaint the walls and redo the kitchen soon! Should I document that too?? Love and hugs!!

Quicky DIY :Vanity Project - Time to Revamp

I wanted to post this long before now, but things don't always work out like planned! This was a quick DIY transformation I did several weeks ago when I had some free time!

My husband and I were driving home from errands and this very old vanity was literally sitting on the side of the road to be picked up with the trash. No way! I was not letting that happen, so we grabbed it! Someone's trash is another's treasure, right? In this case I was happy we grabbed it!

Here is a shot of what it looked like when we got it.

Time to start sanding. I used a regular grit sandpaper and did it by hand.

This is a shot of inside the middle section of the vanity before sanding.

Close up of the fixtures.

After I sanded the vanity I filled in some of the deeper worn areas with a wood putty and sanded those down. I didn't take pictures of that process, but its very easy. Wood putty comes premixed and ready to go. You simply apply a layer of it. let dry, and sand down.

While waiting on the putty to dry and continuing to sand the front side of the vanity I removed the fixtures and spray painted them a chrome silver color.

I also painted the drawers. There are two drawers on each side and the middle area that opens with the mirror. I decided on a black semi gloss paint.

Once they dried I put the freshly painted fixtures back on the drawers.

Here is a shot of the vanity before finishing with the drawers and fixtures.

The camera flash made somewhat of a reflection against the black paint in the before and after picture!

It's Been A While! Update and Quick DIY

Wow! I haven't had time to write in quite a while! Life has so many twists and turns and for a while I don't think I knew which way was up! Things are beginning to settle (I hope) so I should be able to get back to my writing, projects, tips, etc!

October and November were super busy and several things changed in my life. At times it was a struggle, but I am slowly making my way back up.October was nuts! I turned thirty! Yikes!! I did post several things up until mid October but then life got busy! November was filled with craziness and mostly revolved around the kids! Thanksgiving was nice and spent with family and close friends...then there was Black Friday shopping!

I will admit that this year was my first big Black Friday shopping event. I went nuts! I shopped for a solid 10 hours! Most of those hours were spent standing in lines, but I did get some great deals and finished most of my Christmas shopping that day! Whoo-hoo!

This month has been very stressful so far...VERY. My husband broke my camera and of course I was not happy about that AT ALL! The next day the wireless router broke and the Internet was down. On top of that my husband almost died while working on a car. Yes, you heard me...

Ty was working on a car and was trying to lower the jacks. He was laying on the ground under the car (on his side) when the jack collapsed and the car fell crushing him under it. I heard a terrible noise and ran to see what had happened. Thank God my oldest son followed behind me. By the grace of God Bay and I were able to lift (yes we actually picked up that car) it off of him and pull him out.

We took him to the hospital and again by the grace of God he only had minor injuries. He cracked a rib and dislocated his rotator on his shoulder. The doctors said he should heal just fine. They also said if it wasn't for me and Bay pulling it off of him he would have been dead. Amazing! Here is a hospital pic I couldn't resist taking once he was home safe : ). Poor thing!

So now that all the drama and mess are over I am looking forward to things getting back to normal and better than ever! Enough with the bad stuff!

As I mentioned I haven't had time to do much for myself or too many "fun" projects but I thought I'd share this quick one with you! Don't worry I still have tons of DIY's to share,but that will have to wait until after Christmas! I don't want everyone to get hints on what they are getting!!!

~~~~~~PROJECT~~~~~~
I found this old table style jewelry box and of course it was FREE! I decided I was going to do a little revamping and turn it into a makeup vanity (super girly style). Here are the pics!!
First we sanded the wood (my hubby and son helped)
Then I had to pull out all the ugly red felt liner
After that It was time to paint and reline the drawers... I should have taken pics before it had makeup in it lol...then again I didn't have a camera at the time!
Super girly pink with black vine design
Of course I had to use my "froo froo" jar to hold my brushes! I made this a while back but it worked for what I wanted.
Super easy and super fast...not my best work by far, but I used everything I had on hand and didn't have to buy a thing! Total cost...FREE!!
I hope everyone is having a fabulous December so far! I will do my best to get back to my regular posts! Don't forget to check back for all the DIY projects and gift ideas I have coming up!
Xoxo,
Brandi
T-Shirt Transformation : Shirt to Fringe Scarf
I have really been going crazy with all of my t-shirt transformations lately! These are so fun and really easy to do! It's great to bring something plain and ordinary to life by adding your own twist. I am a fan of showing your personal style, and what a great way to do this with designing your own creation from a t-shirt!
I was on pinterest and came across a fun fringe scarf idea several weeks ago. Check it out here! With all my other projects going on I hadn't had time to do this one until today! A few other bloggers have done this fun diy too! Check out this one over at Ohh Em Gee Boutique!
Check out my before and after pictures and read the super easy instructions on how to make your own fringe scarf!
What you need:
T-shirt
Scissors
Directions:
1) Grab a t-shirt
2) Cut the shirt about half way down. Make sure your shirt is laying flat so you cut both sides.
3) Take your scissors and cut slits from the bottom up going about half way up the length of the shirt.
4)Check out the picture to see how I spaced them.
5) Once you cut the slits your fringe has formed! Pull the pieces downward to stretch them.
6) I then stretched the top of the shirt so it would "roll".
7) Wear your super cute new fringe scarf!
T-Shirt Transformation : Plain Tee to Chevron Tie Front Top No Sew DIY
Yes, you guessed it! This is another T-shirt transformation! By now you all know how much I love to revamp the plain and make it more fun! This DIY tells you how to turn a plain t-shirt into a tie front chevron print top. Below the picture are easy to follow instructions so you can make your own tie front tee!
T-shirt transformation: Chevron Tie front top
Supplies :
T-shirt
Scissors
Tape (masking or painters tape is best)
Fabric Paint, Iron on design, etc (if you want a plain tee skip this!)
How To:
1) Start with a t-shirt. Plain works best if you want to add a design, decal, transfer, or patch of any type. This works best if the shirt is about a size larger than you normally wear, but as long as the shirt isn't tight it will work fine!
2) Tape your pattern on your shirt.
3)Once your apply your paint, decal, design, etc. let it dry. The fabric paint I used said to allow four hours to dry.
4) Once your design is finished cut the front of the shirt. You don't want to cut the back yet! Right now just focus on the tie!
5) Cut the front a few inched from the bottom across both sides. Stop at the mid point as shown in the picture. From there cut down at an angle. This will form a triangle shape.
6) Cut the "V" or triangle shape in the middle forming two sides.
7) Cut the neckline and sleeves at your desired length and shape. It's best to stretch the cut parts on the shirt to form a rolled look. Now tie the front!
8) You're all done! Put on your new top and rock it!
T-Shirt Transformation : Plain Tee to Fab Off The Shoulder Top
Have you noticed my fascination with tee shirt transformations lately? I have been doing quite a few of them! Some of my transformations haven't been shown yet, so keep an eye out! Last week I showed you how to turn a plain tee into a cute skirt. If you haven't seen it yet check it out HERE! This was one of my Lucky contributions! You can view those HERE!
I love taking something plain and "boring" and turning it into something fun and unique! This is such a simple way of showing you own sense of style with a touch of flair! Here is my T-Shirt transformation! Check below the picture for a quick how to!
How To:
1) Grab a plain t-shirt.
2) Decide on your design. Hearts, stars, quotes, it's totally up to you!
3) Tape or place your decal where you want the design to be. I decided to do stripes at a slant.
4) Grab your fabric paint. These are really affordable and can be picked up at any craft store.
5) Start painting! I waited about 5 minutes and added a second coat where needed.
6) I wanted to add an anchor, so I put the decal on top of my stripes. I wanted to slant the anchor the way I slanted the stripes.
7) Paint some more!
8) Remove your decals, tape, etc and let your shirt dry for about 4 hours. I waited until the next day.
9) I cut the collar off my shirt to make an off the shoulder style top.
10) Wear it!
How easy was that? I have several more upcoming DIY projects and ton's of great new fashion and style posts! Will you be making your own transformed tee?
Dresser Revamp : DIY project
My husband and I found this old dresser, and I had the bright idea to grab it! It was free, and you can't beat that! The dresser needed some work, so we decided to use what we already had on hand and see what we could do. Total cost for this dresser and the revamp : Zero!
This was a great sturdy wood piece, but needed some work! One of the drawers was out and in pieces. This was an older piece and also needed some updating!
I really didn't like the drawer pulls, so I knew those had to go!
There were a few dings scratches that we filled in with wood putty. If you ever need to fix wood this stuff is great. You can pick it up at any hardware store or Walmart. It's very affordable!
We took out all the drawers and prepared to sand down the places that needed repair.
Then my husband put the broken drawer back together!
We had some flat black paint so decided to go with that just to see how things would turn out.
After we had a matte finish dresser I wanted to add a little bit of flair! I used one of my stencils and some gloss black paint to add detail!
Now time to add the hardware! These are chrome fixtures, but unfortunately didn't turn out too great in the picture! We lost the daylight so finished inside!
This was a fun project and we now have more clothes storage! We can always use that!
