The Guide to Wearing Sequins | Style options for everyone

For some people hearing the word sequin sparks fear. They are reminded of the horrible and tacky outfits of the eighties that still linger in hidden family photo albums! You remember those? The same basic deal as the crazy Christmas sweat shirts with the built in turtle neck and cat with the Santa hat!

Today's sequin trend is much easier to style and anyone can find something they like! I have created a few different looks using a sequin piece for each! I found the most amazing sequin skirt on pinterest and am secretly waiting for a reason to go buy it! I love how easy it is to dress it up or style it in a more casual look.

This first look is similar to the cute outfit I found on pinterest. I love the use of the plain white knotted tee with the sequin maxi skirt!

This next look is using sequin shorts for a fun date outfit or great for an evening out!

This next look is a business fun look! I love the knee length business style skirt paired with fun pops of pink!

This is a very simple and more casual look adding the pop of sequins on the top. This style can easily be worn with jeans, slacks, or even a skirt.

The Short Suit

If you keep up with the latest trends in fashion or watch runway shows then I'm sure you've seen this look! This is a new take on a classic. The short suit is a great way to mix class with fun.There are a large variety of colors, textures, and prints to choose from. This great look can be found in anything from tweed or linen blends to your everyday denim. Lucky magazine featured a "Style Spy" on a great denim railroad stripe suit by Lauren Moffatt and I totally fell in love with it!

There are so many ways to style a short suit! You can go with a matching short and blazer or even mix it up a bit! I love the look of paring a neutral or khaki shade with a brighter hue blouse and accessories.

I also mentioned in one of my last posts that I am totally loving the teal/emerald color paired with a gray! Classic black looks great with pops of neon too!

 

Keep in mind that there are several ways to change up this look to make it your own! If you aren't a fan of the matching look start out with adding a cute blazer to a basic short. What are your thoughts on the short suit? Will you be trying out this style trend?

Oh The Ombre...Still A Favorite

Ombre has been out for quite a while now, but I still love this trend. This look can go from head to toe and all that's in between! There are some really great hair looks using the ombre trend in natural shades or highlighting with fun and wild colors. Here are a few of my ombre picks. Neutrals with a Pop: On My Shopping List

I came across this skirt and loved the color and cut. I don't normally wear skirts like this, but think I will give this one a try. Normally I am drawn to darker colors for my accessories and tend to wear black a lot! I have recently been trying to make a conscious attempt to lean towards neutrals, browns, and pop's of color! I loved the look of this skirt when paired with brown shades. This is a definite outfit purchase! I am also really loving those boots! They are on my must have list and at DSW for under $60!

T-Shirt Transformation : Shirt to Fringe Scarf

I have really been going crazy with all of my t-shirt transformations lately! These are so fun and really easy to do! It's great to bring something plain and ordinary to life by adding your own twist. I am a fan of showing your personal style, and what a great way to do this with designing your own creation from a t-shirt!

I was on pinterest and came across a fun fringe scarf idea several weeks ago. Check it out here! With all my other projects going on I hadn't had time to do this one until today! A few other bloggers have done this fun diy too! Check out this one over at Ohh Em Gee Boutique!

What you need:

 

T-shirt

Scissors

 

 

Directions:

 

1) Grab a t-shirt

2) Cut the shirt about half way down. Make sure your shirt is laying flat so you cut both sides.

3) Take your scissors and cut slits from the bottom up going about half way up the length of the shirt.

4)Check out the picture to see how I spaced them.

5) Once you cut the slits your fringe has formed! Pull the pieces downward to stretch them.

6) I then stretched the top of the shirt so it would "roll".

7) Wear your super cute new fringe scarf!

 



OOTD: Cozy Street Chic

I love Polyvore. I know, I know...I will stop telling you guys that! I can browse through the massive collections all day. It's like pinterest, but with the create your own collage option. In addition to making your own fun collages you can shop, which is always a plus! This is a great tool for putting different pieces together to form outfits! You can easily see how one piece will look with another and go from there.

The Look For Less: Peplum Edition

Peplum is everywhere! From tops to dresses this look is definitely trending. If you find a trend you love it doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune to achieve the look! It is easy to have designer taste on a budget!

I put together this simple look using the peplum top trend with black slacks. These pieces are very versatile and can easily go with other items from your current wardrobe. Check out the splurge vs. steal looks!
